Live from Copenhagen

First of all I would like to apologize for not getting this out earlier I was having some difficulties finding internet and getting my computer to work but I think i have it figured out for the time being. From the moment you step off the plane and enter Copenhagen it is impossible to avoid all of the environmental ads and COP15 posters. Denmark is doing a great job of hosting providing many signs and volunteers to steer you in the right direction and free public transit to get around the city. The Bella Center is the location of the conference and is filled with so many people from every corner of the globe. Right when you walk in you are greeted by youth climate activist from South America or native Inuits coming to protest destruction of their Arctic home, the Tuvaluans trying to keep their home from being flooded, or negotiators from Kenya and Tanzania. I got in Thursday on the tail of youth climate day which was full of plenty of demonstrations from both high school and college aged kids from around the globe.

There is so much going on each day and I am struggling to organize and maximize my time here. There are constant press briefings that I never seem to make in time. Today the US delegation reported on their current negotiations or at least what they are willing to tell the public, and Bill McKibben and 350 activists made a stand calling for 350 in the text which is basically absent from all policy plans by developed nations. I've spent most of my time attending side events which I will hopefully find time to post on later this evening. It is exciting because most of the observers with NGO status are able to intermingle with the negotiators and ambassadors but I'm quickly getting the feeling there is a lot they will not let us see without a press pass. I will hopefully post more later about the side events I attended today but have to get going to make it to the next one.
